What is a Slab Leak?
In homes that don’t basements, several water and drain lines are often integrated throughout the foundation. Slab leaks happen when the pipes underneath the foundation spring a leak, resulting in a water leak running through your foundation slab.
While these plumbing lines are tested for integrity before the slab is poured in, they can shift and settle, resulting in leaks that can prove devastating if they’re not repaired as soon as possible. Slab leaks are some of the most difficult plumbing problems to fix in that they aren’t easy to locate or access, and you may not even realize you have one until the worst has already happened. It’s important to act quickly if you suspect a home slab leak to protect the integrity of your home’s structure.
Dallas-Fort Worth Slab Leak Detection
The first step to fixing a slab leak is figuring out you have one, and unlike pretty much any other type of plumbing leak where spotting the signs is easy, slab leaks are almost impossible to find right away. Most of the time, a slab leak will empty out beneath the slab in your home, causing the soil your home is built on to erode, shift, or settle, which could result in catastrophic damage to your home if left to go for too long.
You may have a slab leak if:
- Your water bill suddenly and unexpectedly spikes upward
- You have unexplained water near the edge of your home (it often appears to be coming from beneath your home
- Your hardwood floors are warping
- You have unexplained wet spots on your carpet
- Your water pressure has decreased
- There are spots on your floor that feel hot for no discernable reason
Unless you pay close attention, it’s extremely easy to miss virtually all of these signs of a slab leak. However, if you do see a few of these signs and you suspect you may have a leak, it’s extremely important to have a professional come and inspect your home as soon as possible. Even if it turns out that your slab is okay, you absolutely do not want to leave one of these issues up to chance with how devastating they can be.
Slab Leak Repair
Repairing a slab leak requires considerable experience and careful planning. Our DFW plumbing team does everything they can to try and avoid an invasive procedure that involves tearing into your concrete slab to try and seal a leak. While we try to use these methods as often as we can, there are some instances where it’s either not feasible, or more expensive to do so. Once we confirm the presence of a leak, we use state-of-the-art technology to locate it and then come up with the best repair plan.
